ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A Draftsman in a furniture company plays a crucial role in the design and manufacturing process. Their primary responsibility is to create technical drawings and blueprints that guide the production of furniture. Below are the key roles and responsibilities:
1. Technical Drawings & Blueprints
Create detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SketchUp, etc.).
Prepare assembly and component drawings for manufacturing and installation.
Ensure drawings are accurate, clear, and follow industry standards.
2. Design Development
Work closely with designers and engineers to develop furniture designs.
Convert conceptual sketches into precise, manufacturable drawings.
Modify existing designs based on customer preferences or material availability.
3. Material & Specification Documentation
Specify dimensions, materials, hardware, and finishing details.
Provide a bill of materials (BOM) with each design for procurement and production.
Ensure all materials and finishes meet quality and safety standards.
4. Coordination with Production & Manufacturing
Communicate with the production team to clarify design specifications.
Update drawings based on feedback from carpenters, machinists, and upholsterers.
Ensure designs are feasible for mass production or custom orders.
5. Quality Control & Compliance
Verify that final products match design specifications.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Revise drawings to correct design flaws or improve efficiency.
6. Client & Project Coordination
Assist in preparing presentations and proposals for clients.
Modify designs based on client feedback and functional requirements.
Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to present visual concepts.
7. Site Visits & Measurements
Conduct site visits to take accurate measurements for custom furniture installations.
Adjust designs based on space constraints and client requirements.
Provide installation guidelines for fitters and carpenters.
8. Research & Development
Stay updated with the latest trends in furniture design and manufacturing technology.
Suggest improvements in design for better durability, cost-efficiency, and aesthetics.
Work with suppliers to explore new materials and construction techniques.
